Why Join The BCA -

1. First and foremost we intend to self regulate and license contractors within the BCA membership. We intend on creating a strong licensed body of exemplary contractors that will significantly raise standards in the industry. Although the details need to be worked out, it is our intention to "grandfather" all association members that are in good standing by the licensing dates.

2. The BCA represents ALL contractors, no matter how small.

3. By setting grades and standards learning institutions will be challenged to ready students for licensing exams and this in turn will produce trained personnel in numbers to the numerous trades in the industry.

4. The BCA represents the industry and is lobbying all Government agencies to correct the many issues affecting us. We will represent the industry in the very complex WTO, FTAA & CARICOM trade agreements that would currently destroy our unregulated industry.

5. The BCA group insurance offers its members significant reductions on all insurance premiums for coverage such as property, all risk, public liability, employer's liability, disability, auto, equipment, and health & life insurance policies for company employees. We hope to offer insurance to our members who otherwise would not be able to afford it.

6. The BCA office manager will be able to provide members information on new projects or prospects and receive your concerns and relay those to the council for action.

7. The BCA is meeting with material suppliers and merchants to discuss sponsoring BCA in turn for promoting their business as well as providing our members discounts.

8. The BCA is meeting with banks to support our cause and to understand our commitment to accountable, ethical contractors. We wish to encourage the banks to recommend BCA members to the clients and developments they lend money to. All of this will be good PR for our membership and good public PR.

9. Members of the association are encouraged to promote members and that whenever possible that members will award contracts to members. We must have confidence in our membership and promote each other.

10. You will receive quarterly news letters. The news letter will feature current BCA business, new projects and development lists, feature articles, advertising, topics effecting the construction industry, contractor's corner, etc. This is our way of keeping our membership informed.

11. You will be invited to quarterly lunch meetings with invited guest speakers from various sectors who will discuss matters relevant to the contracting industry.

12. You will be listed on the BCA web site with email links to your email address. Our web sit is being expanded to act as a resource for developers, government, home builders and the like, and will be promoted as such. Contractors list and classification are posted. Links may be purchased to member companies web sites. Employment opportunities (Human Resources) area will be provided for employers and employees.

13. In addition to the above we meet with Immigration, Financial Services & Investment, and Ministry of Works & Utilities to gain their support and to have them consult with us on matters pertaining to the construction industry. We must level the playing field with regard to local and foreign contractors competing for work in the Bahamas and abroad. We need their support!

The BCA has a proactive approach to some very important issues threatening our industry that will require a great deal of effort, union and thought.

We need your support and we need you to promote the BCA to other Contractors. We will have strength in numbers.
